Electric start generators refer to those portable generators whose engine can be started electrically by pressing a switch or even by a distant remote control. They are usually equipped to give more electricity than normal portable ones, where the engine has to be pull-started. Such generators generally come with an output value in the range of 7 kilowatts to 10 kilowatts. Such special types of portable generators are usually quiet operators in themselves. The electric start generator-engines are also always provided with an additional pull-start mechanism for the engine.
Apart from the electric start such generators are pretty much the same as other portable generators. But, nevertheless the electric start models have a variety of other special features too. Such features include an automatic circuit breaker or/and an inverter or/and a fuel tap controller to ensure that no fuel is lost when generator is not in use.
These generators are also generally designed to be more fuel efficient than the others. These generally can operate continuously from 15 to 20 hours at a stretch. The generator can use any fuel, but more commonly used fuels are gasoline, natural gas and liquid propane. Diesel is also another fuel that is used in many generators. While using a generator proper care should be taken to keep the generator in an open, well-aerated space and away from any closed or cramped enclosure. Also the generators should only be placed near closed doors and windows. The best idea is of course putting the generator away from doors and windows.
Such steps are taken as a precautionary measure against the very poisonous carbon monoxide poisoning. The odorless and colorless carbon monoxide gas can be produced in case of incomplete combustion of the fuel. To put a little bit less quantity of fuel in the generator fuel tank is also a great idea, because this can really ensure that all the fuel has been completely burned. While refueling a generator, the generator should be allowed to cool down first. A good idea is to refuel it in the very beginning, while starting the generator, and refueling it in smaller amounts.
A generator engine is the source of mechanical energy to the generator. The use of an electric starter ensures a little bit more sophistication to the engine system.
The main precaution against an electrical hazard is to ensure that no overloading is taking place and the appliances are connected to the output terminal of the generator by the aid of good 3 point plugs. This will ensure that the grounding of the appliance is properly done.
